Fifty and Fabulous by April Kirkwood
Happy New Year fabulous women! The year, 2009, has been a rough one for me. The world seems to moving so much faster these days. Not to mention small reminders of my mortality jumping to tap me on the shoulder; Michael Jackson my peer passing away and the recent 75th birthday of Elvis Presley. My work place has been a war zone and my wrinkles have decided to have babies. So, what do we do with the birth of 2010? We could run to the gym and try to chase youth like a crazed lunatic.
We could sit on the couch and watch the “E” Channel. Or, perhaps, there is some middle ground where we stay radiant without hyperventilating in fear. I will, of course, still go to the gym but perhaps I won’t be looking around so much to see how I measure up. I will relax without guilt and I put my feet up without reminding myself of my grandparents. But more importantly in 2010, I will get rid of a lot of crap that has been weighing me down. At fifty something, some things just don’t need to be lying around any longer.
Let go of the issue of money defining me; I have had it, lost it, and had it again. My children. I love them but it is time to realize that they have their own dreams. Just the way I forged my own destiny despite my Mom’s warnings, so they are entitled to that freedom as well. They need my love and the rock I provide them - nothing more or less will do. I will also throw away the painful memories of the loves of my life - I have outgrown those shoes and the style of bitterness makes my feet ache. Yes, I hope to travel light this year appreciating the sweet smell of grass in spring on bare feet and sweaters in fall when the air is crisp. So, my challenge to you this January 2010 is to clean out the closet of your heart and let your heart fly like a child new with a fresh outlook.
Tips to Keep you Fabulous!
Mind: Marianne Williamson has a great book, A Woman’s Worth. It will help you to remember just how fabulous you are.
Soul: Create a vision board out of magazines of everything you want this year. Cut out, draw, paste, and have fun. Keep it by your bed so it is the first thing you see every day. That is how I got my house. It really works. “Feeling” it happen is the key to manifestation.
Body: The best moisturizer that is on the market that gives mature skin a glorious glow is by Laura Mercier. It is tinted illuminating cream with a spf of 20. It really gives my skin a glow without being oily. I get such compliments about it. It can be bought at Sephora’s and other fine department stores. I don’t even wear base makeup now. It is that great and only runs about $30.
